Winter Camping: The best tips for a successful winter road trip in a camper

White peaks, snow-covered landscapes and a steaming cup of tea in your hand - winter is knocking on the door and the coziest time of the year is starting. Switzerland has a lot to offer in terms of landscape at this time of year.

Camping in the snow? Yes please! We say: winter camping can easily keep up with summer - you just have to know how to do it best. We have put together some important information here and give you important tips to make winter camping as pleasant as possible!

Why should I go camping in winter?

Snowball fights, skiing and hikes through snowy forests - winter holidays have their own magic. Winter camping lets you enjoy your days off far away from the crowds. Only the hardcore camping fans meet here.

But you can choose a campsite near the ski slope and save yourself the long journey to the ski area. Cross-country skiing or snow tours can also be perfectly combined with winter camping.

And after an exciting day, it's back to the camper, where a hot cup of tea and the heater are waiting to keep the cold out.

You can also benefit from our reduced rental prices in winter. You can save a full 50% from November to March.

Tip 1: Driving safety

Car journeys through snow-covered valleys and forests are a real winter fairytale. But be careful - snow-covered roads can be treacherous, as there is often ice hidden under the snow, which can cause serious slipping. To ensure that you reach your destination safely when winter camping, our campers are equipped with all-season tyres. For particularly snowy and icy roads, we recommend thinking about snow chains when planning.

Tip 2: Heating

Probably the most important thing about winter camping is the heating in the camper, which warms the interior while the camper is stationary. After a breathtaking winter hike, there is nothing better than coming back to the camper, making a warm cup of tea and sitting comfortably in the camper. All our campers are equipped with electric heating, which means that they only work using electricity, so a power connection is essential. However, this should not be a problem if you are on a campsite. This can also run overnight so that you can sleep quietly and warmly in the camper.

Tip 3: Campsites

Winter camping also means that only the real camper friends are out and about, which is why many sites are only open to a limited extent or not open at all in the colder months. To ensure you get a pitch, it is advisable to plan and reserve in advance - this saves you having to search in the dark. Many winter campsites also offer special amenities such as saunas or drying rooms for ski clothes.

Tip 4: Clothing

Temperatures can quickly drop below zero, which doesn't make it particularly comfortable. That's why we recommend packing enough warm clothes and dressing accordingly. What always helps is the layered look. Wear several layers that should keep you as warm as possible.
